You also get a phone number with the eSIM. Although the eSIM is soldered into your smartphone, it works exactly the same as a physical SIM card. Even if it were a pure data SIM, you get a phone number because every SIM identifies itself via a phone number in the mobile network.

Exception: Certain providers of roaming eSIMs advertise a data connection without a phone number. These are special eSIM profiles that can dial into multiple networks and change their phone number depending on the provider. For this reason, the phone number is not displayed to the customer on such eSIMs to avoid confusion.

If you buy your eSIM from a local mobile operator, you will usually also receive a phone number or you can keep your existing phone number.
